Whale whisperer

The Whale Whisperer is a portable wireless listening device designed to evoke a connection between land and sea dwellers through the power of sound.

It takes the form of a rapid-prototyped, hand held, 3d printed, rechargeable speaker in the shape of a whale ear bone and was developed in collaboration with technologists Marko Radeta and João Pestana during Victoria Evans’ three month SGSAH funded artist residency at MARE marine research centre in Madeira.

Playing a variety of distinctive whale vocalisations from Blue, Fin and Sperm whales,The Whale Whisperer creates an intimate, aural encounter that seeks to promote respect for the gulf between perceptual experiences on land and sea, and gesture speculatively towards the future of multi-species interaction.
