A person stands on a beach with the sea in the background. They are wearing headphones and looking down at a phone screen in their hand.

A collaboration with Brendan McCarthy and Sam Healy of Ray Interactive, Tidesong is a mobile sonic artwork, designed to be accessed at the beach. Tidesong was made possible through a Creative Informatics Small Research Grant. Data and technical assistance was provided by Colin Bell from the National Oceanography Centre, and the UK Hydrographic Office.

The artwork was launched on 3 July 2021 at the Edinburgh Science Festival, and was shown as part of my Oscillations installation in the Corner Gallery at Summerhall, Edinburgh. Part of Syncrasy for Ascus Art and Science and the Edinburgh Science Festival at Summerhall (June to September 2021).

Access the tidesong app to explore the evolving map of UK tidesongs, or to generate your own. Headphones recommended.
