howl: A misheard biography in 24 fragments

These transcripts are thought to originate from recordings once stored in the Howl Archives, under the ruins of Sybilla; short-lived city state of the Phonocene. The current location of the recordings is unknown.

Howl is a short work of speculative fiction in fragmentary form. It includes extracts from computer reports, newspaper articles, meeting minutes, scientific papers and diary entries, from which the reader is asked to piece together the story of Shel, the founder of Sybilla, a city famed for its acoustic architecture.

Howl was first published on 10 January 2024 in A Row of Trees the journal of the Sonic Arts Research Unit at Oxford Brookes University, England.
